Background:I'd like to consider myself a feather bed enthusiast. I've slept on 3 feather beds growing up. I had one that my aunt had given me on my full sized mattress before I got married and my wife and I agreed that it was the most comfortable bed we had ever slept on. It gave me the sleeping on the cloud feeling when I laid down on it and that feeling didn't go away the longer I laid on it.I never had to fluff it either. It felt like a feather bed should feel. When my wife and I got married, we decided the full mattress wasn't going to do it for us so we started looking at king sized mattresses, but instead my wife's parents got a new mattress and box springs and let us have their old one. Now that my full sized feather bed wouldn't fit on this mattress, we started looking for something to replace it temporarily to give us a little bit of that comfort we longed for.My initial mistake was letting my wife go to BBB to get something. Low and behold she came back with a 1 inch thick feather mattress topper. After we realized this topper was useless, I started looking at feather beds online.Shopping Process:Since I didn't want another 1 inch mattress topper, I started looking at loads of reviews for feather beds. I went to sleep like the dead's website to look at the reviews on their website and what I should be looking for in a feather bed. Then I got an idea that what I should be looking for is shipping weight. The more it weighs, the more feathers, the fuller it is, the less I have to worry about the bed not giving me the same sleeping on a cloud feeling that I longed for, which is a great strategy that I highly recommend if you are shopping for a feather bed that gives you this kind of effect. This one weighed in at 27 pounds. This feather bed was the heaviest one I could find that was 1. available 2. within my price range and 3. had free shipping as a bonus. So I bought it.The Good and the BadThe package arrived a day early, exceeding my expectations in shipping. When I received the package, I opened it, unzipped the bag it came in, and much to my disappointment it looked thin. Not 1 inch thin, but still much thinner than my previously owned feather bed. I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt and stripped the bedding from my bed, put the feather bed on my bed and looking a little thicker as it came out of the bag, I thought, maybe it just needed to be fluffed. So I fluffed it up and it started to look much more cozy. I couldn't wait to get my sheets back on the bed. Bed made, I laid on it for the first time and it gave me that cloud feeling for about.....10 seconds. Then everything sunk in. Granted it was still comfier than what I had been sleeping on, so my wife and I agreed to give it 3 nights before deciding if we wanted to return it.Night 1: The feather bed was pretty cozy on the first night, but when I woke up and started getting around for work in the morning, I noticed that I had a slight pain in the middle of my back that I had never experienced before. As my day went on, the pain became more noticeable. My wife said she felt fine. No aches or pains for her.Night 2: After sleeping on this feather bed a second night, my back pain continued to get more severe and my wife woke up with her neck hurting. Her neck hurt so bad that when she got home from work, she had to put a heating pad on it to make it feel slightly better. After this we decided the culprit was none other than the feather bed.Night 3: Last night was night 3 and my wife woke up at 3 am with her neck in such throbbing pain that she couldn't sleep so we decided to take the feather bed off that minute and slept the rest of the night without it. When she woke up this morning, she said her neck was feeling better. My back still has a little pain but not as severe as yesterday. What this particular feather bed was doing was, when we laid down on it, it would sink down under our bodies, but where we laid our head would stay elevated, so with pillow and the elevated portion of the bed, whether you sleep on your side, or back, or stomach, it would push your neck quite a bit further out of alignment with your spine than would be normally comfortable. This is what was causing my wife's Neck pain, and most likely the cause of my back pain. Although I'm not a doctor or a sleep expert, the fact alone that before this bed I had no pain and after I started feeling pain I had never experienced tells me something is definitely wrong with the bed.Today I boxed the bed up and now I'll return it, continuing my search for a feather bed that meets my standards and expectations.I hope this review helps someone else who is shopping for a feather bed. Please comment if you have any questions at all. I'd be more than happy to answer them.New review:Are you looking for a 75” featherbed that is actually 75 inches. Keep looking. They now make their double size feather beds 72 inches long. But continue to advertise them as 75”.Still a nice featherbed. Just annoyingly too short now.Original review:I noticed all the reviewers had written their reviews when their feather beds were new. So here's a review from someone (a physically small person) who bought this item over a year ago. Yes it does start out fluffy and supportive but, despite shaking it every morning and punching it and rotating it once a week, I was still getting the donut effect by around the 6 month mark. Now, 15 months after I started using it, the middle is almost completely flat. I now sleep on very edge of the bed to get that support. But that's how it goes with today's featherbeds. They don't make high quality, generously stuffed, ones like they used to. People expect to pay less for things (thanks, Walmart!) and businesses have to cut quality to stay afloat. This featherbed is above average compared to what's out there. You could do worse. I'm about to order another one.UPDATE:I bought a second featherbed from this company to go on a guest bed. Unfortunately, this one has a weird smell that won't go away. I notice that, unlike the first one, it's been treated with one of those chemicals with a made-up name that's supposed to promote freshness. Or not.UPDATE #2: And then I moved and had to buy another one. Which was comfortable and with no weird smell. So maybe those chemicals, if they used them, were a temporary thing. Anyway, over the years I've purchased 4. All 4 have been comfortable for at least a year, and sleepable there after.we purchased an organic latex mattress - need I say more - it was firm and well a bit uncomfortable. We've been dealing with it- because we paid a lot for it - and then I went on a business trip and slept on a bed with a featherbed top - and it was really nice. I thought hmmm maybe I could make our existing firm bed... better. I did a lot of research, I didn't want to spend thousands- or I would've just purchased a new mattress - I thought this was reasonably priced and so I hoped it would be as comfortable. When it arrived- I have to say - I was excited because it was HEAVY. I needed help bringing it down to the bedroom - it was almost 50 lbs. I took it out, laid it over the bed after fluffing - and laid on it. And I was excited because - it was much more comfortable than before - and it almost hugged me as I laid there. So I put the fitted sheet on top of it - and waited til my husband came to bed (see if he could feel the difference). He immediately said - what's going on here? Why is this so nice? Did you buy a new mattress? He turned on the lights and asked me - did you buy a new mattress? I said no... silly... what do you think? And then told him what it was. He said - let's see how I feel in the morning. The next morning - we agreed the mattress situation was totally different thanks to this product. This featherbed- totally makes the bed/mattress an experience. Soft but supportive- not hot (I would have rejected it immediately) and just wonderfully comfortable. We love it. I am glad I read the reviews and took the chance! Thanks fellow Amazonians!I usually make my purchase decisions based on reviews and this had many mixed reviews so gave it a try. Out of the box it looks amazing, good quality and super comfy. The first night or two seemed ok, then I noticed it seeming more like a harder surface than my actual mattress. It seems to compact down to a very hard layer and does not seem to really correct itself with shaking it out. For the price I had hoped for better. My previous feather bed was a box construction and lasted many years and maintained its shape really well. For a guest bed not being slept in often or a person who wants to shake and tumble this daily it would suffice but would not really recommend this.I just bought he second one for my parents in law after we had the first one for YEARS , I dry-clean it once a year and rotate every month months and its still as cozy as it was when I first bought it. No poking feathers , very solid stitchLarge yellow stain on product there when I opened it . How can I return this huge item I barely could get it up my stairs ..Luxuriously soft....love it. Feels like high end hotel quality. Ordering another. As described!!! Very soft and comfortable
